Art 343// My Life as a Video Game HUD Creation

For our first assignment we had to create a HUD self portrait. The reason I created the HUD to be so simplistic is because that is the type of assignment and art creations that I enjoy creating the most.  I believe that simplicity says more than complex systems and they allow for more immersion.  I normally cannot concentrate on more than two things at a time, hence the two buttons.  My Itouch is with me at all times and is therefore part of my inventory.  While I don't use a large flashlight every day, it was just for effect, I do use the light in my phone for a flashlight a lot throughout my days.  I am terrified of the dark, yet I am absolutely fascinated by dark imagery and stories.  If a game makes me jump with fear, that makes me like it immediately.  The map represents how I have a very poor sense of direction and always need a map with me to tell where I am going.  The red dots on the map represent possible destination points, the larger they are, the closer I am to them.  Normally enemies would also be placed on the map, but sometimes I prefer them not to be because I feel that the appearance of an enemy should sometimes be random to allow a certain level of surprise.  The games that I enjoy the most are those with simplistic controls, but allow for great levels of immersion.  Great examples of such games are Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and Silent Hill 2.  They all have simplistic controls, with no use for complex combinations and little to no quick time events (QTE).  Simple may seem easy, but to me to create something that is both enjoyable and simplistic is more difficult than continuously adding unnecessary elements.
